From 4 December 2017 to 9 December 2017. Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire

ICASA 2017

The 19th International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA) will take place in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire from 4-9 December 2017.

Over 10,000 of the world’s leading scientists, policy-makers, government leaders, people living with HIV and civil society representatives are expected to attend the conference around the theme: “Africa: Ending AIDS-delivering differently”.

This year’s conference will focus on ways to reach global targets for ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic by 2030.

Unitaid will be participating in various events with partners, focusing on HIV self-testing, viral load testing, optimal HIV treatment with dolutegravir, and point-of-care testing for early infant diagnosis.

Unitaid is delighted to announce the launch of two new projects during the conference:

TB-SPEED is a four-year, US$ 14.6 million partnership with the University of Bordeaux that will expand access to the best available tuberculosis diagnostics to underserved children in six African countries and Cambodia.

In South Africa, Unitaid is investing US$ 10.6 million to bring medication that prevents HIV (pre-exposure prophylaxis) to adolescent girls and young women who are in situations that put them at high risk of contracting the virus. Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute in Johannesburg will lead the project, working closely with the South African Department of Health.
